Final blog:Reflect on your semester and year in biology What were your successes? What were your failures? What did you learn that you will never forget?

This year l actually learn a lot of useful things, and l should say that biology is a funny subject which support human in many aspects. However,my success in this year is l understand some phenomenon which l confuse and curious before. For example,l notice that father's height is directly has a big impact on his son's height because genetic. Also, tigers have sharp teeth because they need it to be the weapon which can satisfy their appetite.lt's apply to the natural selection.Except the success,l kind of screw something on this period. As l didn't finish the ecological plants project because l mess the cup and the dirt up.That's actually quiet pity. The things l learned which l will never forget may be the dissection part.lt is really interesting.l never do it in Chinese school and other period in here.As a result,it is quite new and attractive to me.lt inform a lot about animals' organ and systems such as respiration and digestion.Shortly, this class help me understand this earth and some distinct species much deeper than last year.l am appreciate about these,Ms.Malonek,thanks.

Blog 14 Compare two of the organisms that we have dissected Discuss at least 2 similarities and 3 differences

CrayfishInternalView.jpg
fishanat.jpg
There are some similarities and differences between crayfish and fish.First, their nerve system are almost the same. They both have a small brain which is next to their eyes.Their respiration is quite similar as well.Because they both live in the water. They use gills to breath instead of use lung.Their external apperance is differ a lot.Fish have a streamline body which can allow their to swim fast. While crayfish have walking legs in order to walk. Also, their excretory system is different because crayfish's anus is at the tip of its tail.

Blog 13 What was most interesting about this week's dissections?

crayfish.gifThis week's dissection about claw fish actually impress me a lot.Not only because l like eat this, but also l feel interesting about its complex internal system.lt has a brain same as human, but its heart is kind of big if you compare to its small body.lnstead of have a lung to do respiration.lt has a big gill.lts degestive system is from intestine to anus,lt is quite similar to human.lt uses its walking legs to crawl.lt may work effective because it has many of them.

Blog#12 What surprised you from the worm's dissection?

Firstable,l am surprised by this tiny worm's complex organ.lf l don't cut it out,l can't image how a little earthworm even contain so many things. Then,l realize its respiratory organ is just its mouth.lts brain is also kind of small if you compare it to its body.lts intestine is not very long.lts heart is vary from human by stay in the center of its body.At last, its anus is at the tip of the body surpised me as well.

Get a picture of alternation of generations put it in your blog and explain how it relates to plants

Alternation of generations (also known as alternation of phases or metagenesis) is a term primarily used in describing the life cycle of plants (taken here to mean the Archaeplastida). A multicellular diploid sporophyte, with N paired chromosomes (i.e. 2N in total), alternates with a multicellular haploid gametophyte, with N unpaired chromosomes. A mature sporophyte produces spores by meiosis, a process which results in a reduction of the number of chromosomes by a half. Spores germinate and grow into a gametophyte. At maturity, the gametophyte produces gametes by mitosis. Two gametes (originating from different organisms of the same species or from the same organism) fuse to produce a zygote, which develops into a diploid sporophyte. This cycle, from sporophyte to sporophyte (or equally from gametophyte to gametophyte), is the way in which all land plants and many algae undergo sexual reproduction.

Why is dissection an important part of a biology curriculum? Which animals and/or plants should be included in biological studies?

Dissection is important because it is usually the process of disassembling and observing something to determine its internal structure and as an aid to discerning the functions and relationships of its components.lt is necessary to use it in order to do much deeper research.Without to cut it out,we can only see the organism's cover, and it's not enough. However,l think the animals or the plants which is in danger should be included in biogical studies because after we keep on studying,it may have some breakthrough which can help them.

Blog 9 Define the different forms of community interaction: competition, commensalism, mutualism, predation, parasitism Give an example and a picture for each

competition occurs when organisms of the same or different species attempt to use an ecological resource in the same place at the same time.for example, tiger and lion may compete each other by fighting for their prey.
predation is an interaction in which one organism captures and feeds on another organism.such as panther is depend on sheep or other animal to be its food.it needs to eat them in order to survive.

in mutualism, both species benefit from the relationship.many flowers depend on certain species of insects to pollinate them.they both get good advantage from each other.

in commensalism, one member of the association benefits and the other is neither helped nor harmed.for example, small marine animals called barnacles, often attach themselves to a whale's skin.yet, the barnacles benfit from the constant movement of water past the swimming whale, because the water carries food particles to them.however, whales do not have any disatvantage.

in parasitism, one organism lives on or inside another organism and harms it.as a parasite obtains all or part of its nutrientional needs from the other organism.

Blog 8 Your choice talk about something you learned or ask a question about something that is confusing you

l leared poplution is a thing that quite complicate, there are a lot  of  factors which can affect it by huge impact. For example, fish's amount is depend on algae's amount,if algae is vanished by human's collection. As a result, fish will become less as well. Also,if there are some big fish which depend on that fish, their amount will decrease, too. Therefore,l think it will be really detrimental to kill some small living things which you think they are not important because it may be plays a major role in a big ecology.l also wondering whether people can create an almost ideal conditions which can help some endangered animals.

Blog 7 Compare and contrast two biomes describe them in detail include pictures of plants and animals you are liklely to see

l am going to compare marine biomes and desert biomes.
Marine regions cover about three-fourths of the Earth's surface and include oceans, coral reefs, and estuaries. Marine algae supply much of the world's oxygen supply and take in a huge amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide. The evaporation of the seawater provides rainwater for the land. Marine biomes' animal are usually be fish, carols, sharks or whales.

Deserts cover about one fifth of the Earth's land surface. Most Hot and Dry Deserts are near the Tropic of Cancer or the Tropic of Capricorn. Cold Deserts are near the Arctic part of the world.Hot and Dry Deserts temperature ranges from 20 to 25° C. The extreme maximum temperature for Hot Desert ranges from 43.5 to 49° C. Cold Deserts temperature in winter ranges from -2 to 4° C and in the summer 21 to 26° C a yearDeserts' plants and animals are suppose to be camel, cactus,or other thing will not need much water
Marine and desert biomes have a biggest different is one is contain infinite water while other is drought and almost have no water.

Blog #6 Which level of a food pyramid is the most important?

According to this picture, you can see that the bottom part of this food pyramid is the biggest. There are a lot of different kinds of food in it.Such as noodle, bread, cereal, donut, and rice. They are similar to each other because they all contain an essential substance to human----carbohydrate.lt's the most important thing to us for its big influence to our body.lt not only serves as the job of store energy, but also as structural components. Therefore,we need numerous of them.As this picture shows,we have to eat 6-11 sevings per day.Compare to other part of this food pyramid, there is no doubt about  fruits, fish,or ice-cream play less role than bread and rice in human structure.

Blog #5 There have been 5 major extinction events throughout history, are humans impacting the 6th? Why or why not?

l think human definitely have a big impact on animals or plants' extinction.First,we take almost all the land or living environment away from these poor living things,They just have a little place to reproduce and survive. All the orignal natural landscape become tall buildings and factories.Animals won't be happy about that.Second, today's world occurs too much pollution. For example:electronic and oil factories will release enromous air pollution which can be fatal to animals. The water pollution also is a very serious problem. You can't count how many fish died in China's dirty river or canal.Third, people kill some value species for money as well,it's very ruleless and selfish. Most endangered animals are face to extinct because human's greedy traits.ln briefly,if human don't stop this kind of harmful action, there will have a high risk to impact a sixth extinction.

Blog # 4 Describe the three types of selection: directional, stabilizing and disruptive and give an example of each in your own words

directional selection
when individuals at one end of the curve have higher fitness than individuals in the middle or at the other end, directional selection takes place.such as,if there is a snack with normal venom, another snack has overwhelming venom.but the habitat they live are full with some strong prey who need to be kill by the powerful venom.then, the snack with overwhelming venom will be survive.as the result, the average venom intensity will be increase.

stabilizing selection
when individuals near the center of the curve havee higher fitness than individuals at either end of the curve, stabilizing selection takes place.for example,if there are two extremely lizards, one isyellow, and the other is purple.however, the nomarl lizards should be green.the yellow lizard's struggle is its color will make it die easier in its environment, and the purple one' color causes it can not hide itself perfectly.therefore, the amout of yellow and purple will decrese while the green one will have more offfspring.

disruptive selection
when individuals at the upper and the lower ends of the cureve have higher fitness than individuals near the middle, disruptive selection takes place.here it is,if there are three kind of horse, the first is small, the second is normal, and the third one is big.when they face a lion at the same time, the small one can run away very fast, the big one can threat the lion and make it afraid to attack, while the normal can do nothing.because of that, the population of the small and big one will raise, but the normal size will be decline.

Blog #3 Explain what microevolution is? What are the three ways that variation occurs?

microevolution is a change in gene frequency within a population. This change is due to four different processes: mutation, selection (natural and artificial), gene flow and genetic drift.Population genetics is the branch of biology that provides the mathematical structure for the study of the process of microevolution. Ecological genetics concerns itself with observing microevolution in the wild. Typically, observable instances of evolution are examples of microevolution; for example, bacterial strains that have antibiotic resistance.
These are the three ways that variation can occur.
1.mutation
A mutation is any change in a sequence of DNA.Mutations can occur because of mistakes in the replication of DNA or as a result of radition or chemicals in the environment,
2.gene shuffling
it occurs during the production of gametes
3.crossing-over
occurs during meiosis.Further increases the number of different genotypes that can appera in offspring.

Blog # 2 Why is fossil record hard to interpret?

First of all, fossil is a very ancient substance.lt occurs long time ago,can you regonzine a thing after millons of years? As a result,it is very hard to interpret fossil record because it's very old. Also, after evolution, many animals and plants alter their shape and apperance a lot.lt is more hard to distinguish them.People can just infer or guess which thing does this fossil record represent. The result may be unclear.Fossil is a staff with mysterious.lt kind of werid, too. The experiment on them will depend a lot of environment, history, and biology' knowledge. All in all,the fossil record is really hard for people to interpret or demonstrate.Fossil-Fish-2.jpg

Why is evolution a theory and not a law?
l think the most important reason for evolution is a theory because it can not be prove vividly or precisely by our telenogy now.lt  may be wrong or not totally correct,so it suppose not be a law.lt is just a good and beliveable demonstration.lt will be replace by more advanced and nicely theory in the future. Also, the earth occurs in this universe for a long time.lt's very hard to observe it clearly.Evolution theory can't be one hundred percent right.ln short,it's not a law because it depends some scientists' guess, and don't have enough essential details to show it is true without any doubt.

last blog of the semester

What was you favorite activity/topic this year? Why was it a favorite?
My favourite activity of this year ids the strawberry lab occured about one week ago.l think it's interesting and funny. The first  reason is l like to eat strawberry.l also feel to see the DNA is a very amazing and awesome thing,l see a small thin materal with pink and a little black.Thats's the DNA which l first see. However,it's a  impressive lab.

What was your least favorite? Why?
My least favourite is the kimi chip.l forget how to spell it.l don't like because l forget to bring it,or it will be funny, too.Hopefully,l can taste it next time.l really like fendentmal food.lt's health and delicious

If you could change one thing (Not the amount of homework) what would it be and how would you change it?

lf l could change one thing,l will change my study's attitude more good and with more intersting and be more careful.l use my effort in next semster and be better.

Blog#13 How has DNA changed how we investigate crimes?

l think DNA is a very helpful and important invention, especially make the police and decteive to find out the crimal easily.lf there is a careless robber left their blood in the crime scene. Then,it's possible to have a investigation on that blood. We can find the unique DNA from it.Consequently,we can find the truely robber easily a lot than before. Also, even if the murder left a small hair,we can also find out who's DNA is it.Like in the movie,Vincent's one litttle hair has all of the DNA,and it's a very important clue in that movie. However, the invention of DNA help a lot in the crimes. We don't really need a lot of wisdom people like Selock Homes. We can easily find out who is the final murder depend on one modern evidence:DNA!
